Content of the lessons
Genesis and History of the Oriental Dance.
Understanding of the music and rhythms in Oriental Dance.
Analysis of the most common rhythms in Oriental Dance.
Warming up and breathing exercises.
Analysis of the posture, anatomy and exercises in the Oriental Dance.
Isolation. (Upper and lower part of the body).
Basic technique in the oriental dance:
-Hands and shoulders movements (shoulder roll, snake etc.), pelvic tilt and hips kick, hip drop ( Baladi kick) and hip twist, belly roll and chest drop.
-Hip circle and 8 horizontal and vertical figures (Maya).
-Breast and belly Camel.
-Breast and belly Shimmy.
-Basic technique concerning travelling in the space:
-Scissor walk, cross walk, box walk.
Combination between walking techniques and stationary figures.
The advanced class course is based on the study of more sophisticated techniques.
Isolation will be practised through figures like:
Camel walk, Camel Shimmy, Maya walk and Maya Shimmy, Hip circle and Shimmy and all possible combinations of the abovementioned figures.
Part of the advanced course will be dedicated to the Tribal style (tribal walk +/- Shimmy, tribal circle, Camel back) and rudiments of Turkish gypsy dance and Tunisian Style.
Moreover Voile dance, Stick dance, Cymbals dance, Floor dance and many other steps (suspension step/penguin walk, jewel step, arabesque, spinning ) to enrich the style with all possible varieties according with each student’s orientations.
Particular attention will be given to the emotions related to each step. Ultimate goal of the Course is to initiate the student into a pure, soulful dance and to embellish his/her own style based on improvisation or on choreography.
